Catch (video, 2 min, 2009)

Catch was filmed in West Greenland, at the icefjord of Sermeq Kujalleq glacier near Ilulissat. In the performance a fishing net, picked up on site, was repeatedly thrown across the endless panorama of icebergs, water, rocks and sky.
The action, in its failure, describes the futility of trying to catch and own a view of such vast, nonhuman, and inaccessible scale. At the same time, having captured and preserved this scene of defeat, the video work insists on a value within the attempt to challenge the existential distance between spectator and world, nevertheless.
